Summary

This building was a former stable with combined living accommodation attached to Sustead Hall, which is now demolished. It dates to the early 17th century and is built from English bond brick and flint with a pantile roof. All the openings are in chamfered reveals with remains of stucco ashlaring. The roof has a sawtooth brick eaves cornice and moulded brick kneelers to the stepped parapet gables. Inside, there is a 17th century staircase and a four-centred arched fireplace to the eastern room on the first floor. Running east from the southeast corner of the building is a 17th century diapered brick wall. Running south from this point is an English bond brick wall with flint plinth. Running north from the northeast corner is a 17th century brick wall joining and forming a T-shape with a contemporary. All this 17th century walling is now incorporated into later farm buildings.
