Summary

A late 18th-century brick house that was converted into a pub in the 19th century. The building is now a shop. Its cellar contains patches of 16th-century brickwork.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Late 18th-century house, converted to a public house in 19th century, converted to a shop late 20th century. Colourwashed red brick. Roof of 20th-century concrete pantiles. Three storeys; three-window range. Late 20th-centruy plate-glass shop front under a fascia board extending left to include adjacent building...Bell-based gabled roof. Stack on rear slope at north end.
INTERIOR: cellar with patches of 16th-century brick. First floor has a chamfered bridging beam and a re-used bridging beam with sunk quadrant mouldings."

The location of this record has been corrected. Due to an erroneous grid reference associated with (S1) (now corrected) it was previously mapped as a point at TG 5237 0745. A similar issue occurred with the record for the adjacent building, 2 Howard Street South (NHER 48589). As a result it wasn't recognised that a combined record for these two buildings had previously been created at the correct location (NHER 34422). This has now been revoked and the two newer, separate records retained.
