2024.
Programme of renovation works undertaken that saw the construction of a new, two-storey rear extension on the site of a single-storey timber conservatory and various internal modifications, including the removal of the western chimney stack and the insertion of new doors and glazing to the ground floor.
See Design and Access Statement for further details (S2) on these works. This document notes that the building was previously known as 'The Old Manse' and "…appears to have served as a school…", although it has been in residential use since at least the 1960s. The central staircase probably dates to the mid to late 19th century and it is suggested the the roof probably originally had a steeper pitch, with the attic space unoccupied. There is clear evidence that the outer walls were built up to provide a new attic space. The attic floor has been replaced with modern joists and the cut roof and purlins probably date to the early 20th century.
See also NHER 69723 for information on the results of archaeological monitoring undertaken during groundworks associated with the new extension and the installation of a soakaway.
