Summary

Cropmarks of parallel linear ditches, possibly medieval to post medieval field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs. A group of slightly curved linear ditch cropmarks are present on a parallel roughly northwest to southeast alignment. It is possible that these ditches are the boundaries of medieval to early post medieval strip fields. However, some of the cropmarks appear to cross the line of the Broome and Ellingham parish boundary (NHER 45002).

Map

August 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of parallel linear ditches, possibly medieval to early post medieval field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TM 3555 9288. A group of slightly curved linear ditch cropmarks are present on a parallel roughly northwest to southeast alignment. The longest of these, located in the western part of the group, measures 298m in length. It is possible that these ditches are the boundaries of medieval to early post medieval strip fields. However, some of the cropmarks appear to cross the line of the Broome and Ellingham parish boundary (NHER 45002). The present fields also cross the parish boundary and it is possible that the cropmarks could relate to modern agricultural activity.
