Full Description
August 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a linear ditch relating to a parish boundary and possible road or trackway is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). This cropmark is located at TM 3536 9293. A 130m long section of slightly curving linear ditch cropmark is present on a southwest to northeast alignment between TM 35340 92880 and TM 35375 93000. The southwest section of this cropmark follows the line of the Ellingham and Broome parish boundary. Towards its northeast end the ditch curves towards the north away from the line of the parish boundary. The curve in the ditch cropmark means that unlike the parish boundary it does not cut across the cropmark of a possible double ring ditch (NHER 45000). It is possible that the line of the parish boundary follows that of a Roman road or boundary (NHER 48885). However, if this is the case its relationship to the double ring ditch cropmark is unclear. It is also possible that the cropmark relates to a post medieval path or track cutting off the corner between Loddon Road to the southwest and Dull’s Road to the north.
