Earthworks of a World War Two slit trench are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These earthworks are centred on TM 4389 9284. A single slit trench was present on the west side of the former Beccles to Great Yarmouth railway line at the end of the bridge over the River Waveney. It is likely that it was positioned to defend the railway line and bridge and prevent them from being used by the enemy in the event of an invasion. Three further slit trenches were located either side of the railway line 350m to the northeast (NHER 45021).
