Summary

Earthworks of field boundaries and a possible trackway and enclosure of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs. A possible incomplete trapezoidal enclosure is present attached to a trackway. It is possible that these relate to a precursor to the present farm adjacent to the earthworks.

Map

September 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks of field boundaries and a possible trackway and enclosure of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These earthworks are centred on TM 4014 9352. Earthworks of two parallel curving ditches are present on a roughly southwest to northeast alignment. They are spaced 7m apart and possibly define a trackway. Attached to the east side of the possible trackway at its southern end is an incomplete curvilinear enclosure. It appears to have a roughly triangular or trapezoidal plan with internal dimensions of 33m by at least 38m. This enclosure and trackway are possibly of medieval date and could relate to a predecessor of the adjacent Upland Farm. An earthwork of a curvilinear bank is present to the north of the trackway and enclosure. This feature is marked by a line of four trees on the 1945 aerial photographs and is probably a field boundary of post medieval date. A linear ditch earthwork, possibly also a post medieval field boundary, is present to the south of the other earthworks.
