Full Description
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a medieval to post medieval road are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TF 7253 3446. A curving linear negative cropmark representing the compacted or metalled surface of a road is intermittently visible for 358m between TF 7236 3443 and TF 7271 3448. It corresponds with the line of a road shown on a 1630 estate plan of Sedgeford (S2) and Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk (S3). It is likely that the road is of medieval to early post medieval origin. The adjacent modern road had been moved to its present alignment by 1840 (S4). A cropmark of a ditch is present alongside the road for part of its length.
J. Albone (NMP), 31 May 2006
