Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A linear ditch is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), between TG 4449 1866 and TG 4469 1868. In its orientation it broadly fits the pattern of enclosure depicted on historic maps, such as the parish Tithe Map of 1842 (S2) and the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S3). Consequently, its interpretation as a post medieval field boundary seems plausible, albeit one that had gone out of use by the mid 19th century. At the same time, the feature is surrounded by cropmarks left by recent agricultural activity and the possibility that it too is of recent origin, perhaps part of an envelope pattern for example, cannot be ruled out.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 11 October 2006.
