Summary

Linear ditches and a possible enclosure, all of unknown date, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Some may have been associated with one or more phases of the multi-period field systems, enclosures and trackways visible to the southeast (NHER 45072). Others may not be of archaeological origin, but instead may reflect recent agricultural activity.

Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Linear ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 4022 1971. Part of possible enclosure may be visible at TG 4020 1964. The date and function of these features is not known. Some could be field boundaries, associated with one or more phases of the field systems, trackways and enclosures visible 140m to the southeast (NHER 45072). Others might be associated with the World War Two airfield here (NHER 8456). At the same time, however, the archaeological origin of the mapped features is somewhat dubious, and at least some may be the product of recent agricultural activity.

The possible enclosure, which is only tentatively identified as such, is irregularly shaped in plan. It measures up to 19m long and 15m wide.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 October 2006.
