Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of undated linear ditches, possibly incomplete field or enclosure boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3097 1279. Seven sections of linear ditch cropmark are present. Two of these form a double ditched boundary on a roughly west to east alignment. They form a T-junction with a roughly north to south aligned single ditch cropmark at their eastern end. Other linear ditch cropmarks are present on similar alignments. It is likely that these ditches relate to field boundaries or incomplete enclosures. The alignment of these ditches does not correspond to the modern field pattern suggesting that they are not of later post medieval date. This area was shown as part of Mousehold Heath on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk (S2). Although it is possible that such boundaries or enclosures existed on the heath, these cropmarks could have an earlier, possibly Roman, date.
