Full Description
October 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of rectilinear enclosures and possible field boundaries of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3169 1069. An incomplete rectilinear enclosure cropmark is present at the northern end of this group. It has a roughly rectangular plan with a 2.5m wide ditch and external dimensions of 100m by 68m. Only the northeast and southwest corners and part of the west side of this enclosure are visible as a cropmark. It is positioned across two gullies leading westwards into a small valley. Due to the different soil types present in these gullies, the enclosure ditch is not visible as a cropmark in these areas. To the south of this enclosure is an L-shaped ditch cropmark with a rounded corner. It is possible that this ditch defines two sides of a northwest to southeast aligned enclosure with dimensions of at least 104m by 83m. Other linear ditch cropmarks are present on similar and different alignments to the enclosures. It is likely that some of these are field boundaries. These enclosures and field boundaries have a different alignment to the post medieval field pattern and are of unknown date.
