Summary

A group of undated ditches, probably the remains of field boundaries and trackways from a number of different periods, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They almost certainly form an eastern continuation of the much larger multi-period cropmark site visible 150m to the west (NHER 45089). Some elements of the site described here may belong to one of the phases of activity represented at this larger site. Some may be contemporary with the trackway and field boundaries of possible later prehistoric date identified to the south and east (see NHER 44902 and 44897, for example).

Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of undated ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 4344 1617. They probably represent fragments of field boundaries and trackways. They are undated and the various alignments evident suggest that more than one phase of activity is represented. Some elements may be contemporary with parts of the much more extensive multi-period cropmark site visible 150m to the west (NHER 45089). Others, such as the trackway or boundary oriented northwest to southeast and visible between TG 4321 1620 and TG 4345 1601, may belong to the same phase of activity as the trackway and field boundaries of possible later prehistoric (Iron Age?) date visible to the east and south (see NHER 44897 and 44902, for example). At the same time, a number of non-archaeological cropmarks of geological or agricultural origin are also visible in this area, and the archaeological origin of the mapped features is not entirely certain.
