Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of earthwork boundaries, enclosures and possible structures of either post medieval or World War One date are visible aerial photographs on the western side of the South Denes (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 5302 0472. The site consists of two enclosures defines by banked boundaries, one centred on TG 5303 0465 and TG 5298 0477. The southern enclosure is the least regular of the two. The northern enclosure is rectangular and appears to have a possible concrete surface within the enclosed area nearest the quayside (S4). This is showing in a similar manner to those paved areas and building platforms associated with the World War One seaplane base to the immediate east (NHER 13631). It is therefore possible that this is also a World War One structure, however surrounding banks look more post medieval in date and style. To the north of this possible concrete floor or yard is a circular vegetation mark (S1), 12m in diameter. It is possible that this is the remains of a circular structure or tank. To the northeast at TG 5301 0483 is a small circular mound, 8m in diameter and with a central slot. Although it is possible that it is World War Two in date, this again appears to be an earlier feature and again may relate a former building platform.
