Summary

The cropmarks of an enclosure and associated ditches of possible late prehistoric date are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Hobland Hall, Bradwell. This enclosure appears to relate to a phase of occupation or activity that pre-dates the settlement and fields that cover the area to the north of the Hall. These enclosures are though to be Iron Age to Roman in date (NHER 45052).

Map

September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of an undated enclosure and ditches, possibly former field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Hobland Plantation, Gorleston on Sea (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 5101 0189. This enclosure appears to relate to a phase of occupation or activity that pre-dates the settlement and fields that cover the area to the north of the Hall. These enclosures are though to be Iron Age to Roman in date (NHER 45052).

The possible enclosure is centred on TG 5105 0190 and is rectilinear and measuring 45m by at least 25m. All of the cropmark are quite faint and fragmentary and the north side of the enclosure is not visible. The enclosure appears to be subdivided internally, possibly into five zones. The small, approximately 7m square, enclosed area within the northwestern part of the site is the better defined than the rest of the site. To the west of the enclosure are two ditched linear features, which are broadly aligned the same as the enclosure ditches, and are possibly associated field boundaries.
