Map

September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of ditches of probable Roman date are visible on aerial photographs in Gorleston-on-Sea (S1). The site is centred on TG 5212 0248 and is now covered by the James Paget Hospital. These ditches are likely to represent land and field boundaries and appear to form a northern continuation of the planned Roman landscape recorded to the south (NHER 43495). These ditches are located within an area of quite complex overlapping and fragmentary ditches, the majority of which are of unknown date. A series of post medieval boundaries also overlay the site (NHER 45056), prior to the hospital construction.

The site consists of a fragmentary arrangement of ditches, which follow the same alignment as the more extensive and planned system of fields and boundaries 500m to the south. Double ditches define a number of the boundaries and these are likely to represent parts of trackways.
