Map

March 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A group of post medieval drainage ditches and field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Hickling Broad (S1). The site is centred on TG 42017 2212. The main drain or ditch runs from TG 4163 2223 to TG 4211 2220 and the line of the channel extends to the south towards the location of the drainage pump at TG 4191 2207 (NHER 8395). These drainage ditches pre-date the field boundaries and trackways marked on the 1842 Hickling Tithe map (S2), which cut across these channels. It is possible that some of the features correlate to drains depicted on the 1808 Hickling Enclosure map (S3), although no definite relationship can be identified.
S. Massey (NMP), 29 March 2005.
