Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
An undated L-shaped ditch, possibly part of a small enclosure, is visible on aerial photographs (S1). The site is located near to the position of a post medieval watchtower (NHER 1882), marked as ‘Tower ruins’ on Faden’s map (1797) (S2). The structure is also marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map (1 inch, 1824-67) (S3). However the cropmarks are not quite in the correct positioning to be directly related to this former watchtower, although it is worth noting the close proximity.
The ditch is 1.5m wide and runs from TF 96942 41497 to TF 96932 41506 and then turns 90 degrees and continues to TF 96917 41494. The ditches are 12.5m and 19.5m long respectively and may represent part of a small enclosure bisected by the hedge line to the immediate south.
S. Massey (NMP), 21 February 2003.
