NHER 45199 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of undated field boundaries

The cropmarks of a group of undated linear ditches or field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Whitehouse Farm Cottage, Hopton on Sea (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 5185 9989. These cropmarks are located within an area of complex multi-period cropmarks, see NHER 17475 for discussion.

These ditches are aligned roughly north-south or east-west and appear to suggest an additional phase of ditches to those recorded under NHER 43559, which are undated pre-post medieval, and 45159, which are post medieval. Although undated, it is possible that the boundaries are also post medieval in date, perhaps representing an earlier phase. Although given the location in the valley some of these linears could be drainage ditches. One of the ditches to the north of the site appears to cut through the concentric rings of a round barrow (NHER 43526), although the cropmarks are not very clear in this area.
