Summary

The cropmarks of two linear ditches, possibly part of a post medieval trackway, are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Hobland Manor on the former Gorleston common. It is possible that this track forms part of a more extensive route running southeast to northwest across the common, potentially linking with NHER 45153 and 45157.

Map

October 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a post medieval trackway are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Hobland Manor on the former Gorleston common (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 5164 0142. It is possible that this track forms part of a more extensive route running southeast to northwest across the common, potentially linking with NHER 45153 and 45157.

The linear is visible in two segments running from TG 5157 0152 to TG 5171 0133. The northwestern section is much broader, up to 3m across. These ditches follow the same alignment as the more substantial trackway remains to the southeast (NHER 45157) and it is therefore possible that this is a continuation of the route across the former common land. To the northwest a further substantial trackway or road is visible running along the same alignment and this is marked on the recorded on the 1797 Faden map (S3).
