Full Description
November 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of field boundaries of unknown, medieval and post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3460 1514. Linear ditch cropmarks are present on a variety of different alignments. Some of these are aligned parallel and perpendicular to the modern field pattern and are likely to be of post medieval date. Other ditches are present on roughly north to south and west to east alignments. Two parallel ditch cropmarks are present on a south to north alignment between TG 3449 1486 and TG 3446 1514. They may relate to a former driveway to Ranworth Old Hall, the site of which lies immediately to the northeast of the cropmarks (NHER 14448). Other rectilinear cropmarks immediately to the south and east of the hall site may be associated enclosures or garden features. There is believed to have been a medieval hall at the site and it is likely that most of the cropmarks in this group are of medieval to post medieval date.
