Map

November 2006. Field observation.
A group of large rectangular ponds survives to the north of Wood Rising Hall. At the time of the visit most contained water, although at least one was dry. Their shape, form and size suggests that they are medieval fishponds. They appear on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey 6 inch map (S1) and on modern maps.
The banks of the ponds and the areas around them are highly vegetated, with oaks, hornbeans and many coppiced trees.
