Full Description
January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two observation tower is visible on aerial photographs next to the Cliff Hotel, Gorleston on Sea (S1-S2). This square tower is constructed on the hill in-between 1941 and 1944 and would have provided extensive views of the harbour, seafront and horizon (S1-S3). The tower is 5m square and centred on TG 5293 0350. It appears to be around three stories high, as it is the same height as the Cliff Hotel. It is likely that the Hotel would have been commandeered for military use during the war. A number of air raid shelters are situated immediate behind the hotel (NHER 42339).
S. Massey (NMP), 26 January 2006.
