Full Description
November 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible enclosure of late prehistoric date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Church Walk, Bradwell (S1). The site is centred on TG 4986 0358. A broadly contemporary trackway may run towards this site (30302). These cropmarks are located within an area of complex and multi-period cropmarks, see NHER 45216, including a dense area of possible Iron Age to Roman date fields and enclosures (NHER 45215).
The possible enclosure is suggested by a series of causewayed ditch segments and parallel ditches that appear to form a curvilinear boundary, which may be part of a polygonal or curvilinear enclosure, measuring at least 70m by 35m. The northern half of the site is masked on the aerial photographs by an area of arable not producing cropmarks.
S. Massey (NMP), 01 November 2006.
January 2017. Geophysical Survey
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
Although this survey identified a number of potentially archaeologically-significant linear anomalies in this part of the field there was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with this particular group of cropmarks.
See report (S2) and NHER 67115 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 11 June 2023.
March 2023. Assessment of the Character and Significance of East Anglian Field Systems project.
The site described above was included in the dataset analysed for the Historic England-funded Assessment of East Anglian Field Systems project. See the project report (S3) for further details.
