Map

May 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and soilmarks of a series of medieval to post medieval boundaries are visible on aerial photographs on the former Belton Common (S1-S2). The majority of these boundaries are marked on the 1838 Belton Tithe map (S3). One of these boundaries also runs alongside the parish boundary between Belton with Browston and Fritton St Olaves. The exact date of these boundaries is not certain, although it is likely that these boundaries reflect the nineteenth century enclosure and encroachment of the common and the gradual conversion of the common to arable. Only small sections of rough ground survive today.

World War One date slit trenches (NHER 43360) have been cut into the central part of the common, some of which are along the lines of the earlier boundaries.
