Map

May 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks and vegetation marks of a series of medieval to post medieval drainage ditches and embankments, some of which may be associated with riverside industries, are visible on aerial photographs alongside the River Waveney on the eastern edge of the Langley Marshes (S1).

The earthworks are located within an area of dense and high vegetation and were only visible were that vegetation was less dense. It seems likely, given the location, that these earthworks relate to drainage and flood management alongside the river. Although it is possible that the earthworks relate to the remains of a riverside industrial activity, similar to those located on the opposite side the River Wensum, such as the brick and cement works (NHER 10501, 31134).
S. Massey (NMP), 28 May 2008.
