Summary

The earthworks of possible medieval saltern mound are visible on aerial photographs on the Belton Marshes. This low mound is located on the edge of the levee of what was potentially a natural drainage creek on the saltmarshes and it is therefore possible that this mound is also made up of naturally deposited material. Other possible salterns have been recorded within this area (NHER 49235-6, 49254), although none have been proven by excavation to be the product of salt making.
