Summary

The cropmarks of a group of undated and fragmentary field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs at Belton. Although undated the morphology of these fragmentary field boundaries could suggest that they are Iron Age to Roman in date. All of the possible cropmarks and vegetation marks are now built over with post 1970s expansion of the Belton.

Map

May 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a group of undated and fragmentary field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs at Belton (S1). Although undated the morphology of these fragmentary field boundaries could suggest that they are Iron Age to Roman in date. All of the possible cropmarks and vegetation marks are now built over with post 1970s expansion of the Belton.

Some of the linear features mapped have the appearance of vegetation marks in an area of rough ground, centred on TG 4801 0315, and therefore should be treated with suspicion with regards to their archaeological significance. However the line of the vegetation marks appears to continue as cropmarks in the field to the south, possibly indicating that both sets of linear marks may relate to sub-surface archaeological features.
