Map

November 2006. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of proposed development site.
Indicates a high potential for medieval remains at the south of the site, comprising ploughed out monastic or manorial earthworks and the possible site of a water mill.
A possible medieval and post medieval salt-making site has also been identified near the centre of the site, though this is levelled, and any remains of this may well have been destroyed.
The assessment area contains a relatively high number of cropmark settlement and enclosure features of prehistoric to Roman date, and cropmarks which may represent a late prehistoric trackway, as well as undated cropmarks which may also be of early date.
A small number of finds spanning the prehistoric, Roman, Saxon and medieval periods have been retrieved from within, or in the immediate vicinity of, the application site, and these might indicate the presence of buried archaeological remains of any of these dates.
See report (S1) for further details.

See report (S2) for further details.
