Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of linear ditches, possible field boundaries and incomplete enclosures of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3858 1962. A possible rectilinear enclosure is located at TG 3854 1968. It measures 17m by 18m internally and is associated with other ditch cropmarks leading away from it to the south, east and north. Another possible rectilinear enclosure, measuring 26m by at least 25m internally, is present on the eastern side of the group. The date and function of these possible enclosures is unknown. In the north of the group are two L-shaped ditches lying at an angle to the modern field, and parish, boundary. These ditches may have been part of a group of stepped fields or enclosures which formed an earlier zigzag line of the parish boundary. Such zigzag boundaries are usually interpreted as the result of medieval strip fields meeting the line of a boundary. Several other undated linear ditch cropmarks are present, some of which may also be field boundaries of different periods.
