Summary

Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Three sides of a possible rectilinear enclosure are visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 3070 2572. Although it is visible on only one set of aerial photographs, the postulated enclosure is fairly convincing as an archaeological feature, although an association with relatively recent attempts to drain the area cannot be ruled out. Its date and function are unknown; there is no evidence of a connection with the 18th-century landscape park, Worstead Park (NHER 40884), which surrounds it. A curvilinear cropmark which overlaps it, visible on the same aerial photographs, is likely to be a product of recent agricultural activity and consequently has not been mapped by the NMP.

The enclosure is broadly rectilinear in plan, although its south side is concave. It is defined by a narrow ditch, in which there are no obvious entrances. It measures at least 77m long and up to 48m wide.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 22 March 2007.
