Summary

Aerial photographs of this area that were taken in 1946 show the earthworks of a pair of ditches running towards the River Ant. It is possible that these ditches relate to post medieval drainage features, although the remains of a gravel ford across the river was discovered in this area in 1938 (NHER 8328) and it is therefore possible that that one or both of these earthworks relate to this former ford.

Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of a pair of ditches, of unknown definite date, are visible on aerial photographs running towards the River Ant at Stalham. The site is centred on TG 3593 2424. It is possible that these ditches relate to post medieval drainage features, although the remains of a gravel ford across the river was discovered in this area in 1938 (NHER 8328) and it is therefore possible that that one or both of these earthworks relate to this former ford. The eastern and straighter ditch is nearer to the location of NHER 8328 and is the most likely candidate.
