Full Description
April 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A group of undated ditches and a post medieval trackway are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 3224 2158. The trackway is depicted on 19th century maps, such as Ashmanhaugh Tithe Map (S4), as a footpath, but may have much earlier origins. The ditches are probably field boundaries or similar features, and may be contemporary with parts of the extensive multi-period cropmark site visible to the west, NHER 36748. Elements of the larger site may date to the Iron Age and/or Roman period, while others were in use in the late post medieval period. The orientation of the ditches recorded here would suggest that the earlier date is more likely in this case.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 30 April 2007.
