Cropmarks of field boundaries and possible trackways of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4111 0682 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 18332. A group of linear ditch cropmarks are present on a roughly south-west to north-east alignment. Two double ditches are present among these. It is possible that they represent trackways but they could merely be double-ditched field boundaries. Shorter ditches aligned north-west to south-east create a number of small fields. These are generally trapezoidal in plan and range in size from 42m by 24m to 77m by 63m. The cropmarks in the south-west part of this group align with modern field boundaries and the Halvergate / Beighton parish boundary. However, elsewhere they are cut by the parish boundary and also by the modern route of the road between Moulton St Mary and Halvergate. This road appears to have followed a similar alignment since at least the late 18th century (S4) indicating an earlier date for the field system. Two of the ditches in the north-east of the group appear to continue on both sides of a small stream valley now occupied by carr woodland. Several of the field boundary cropmarks appear to respect two ring ditch cropmarks present amongst them (NHER 18332). It is possible that these field boundaries are of medieval or earlier date. Their relationship to the other field system cropmarks (NHER 49394) present in this area is not clear.
