Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway of unknown, but probably medieval to post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Heath Farm, Catfield (S1). The site is centred on TG 3949 2139.

A sinuous trackway runs south from TG 3942 2155 to TG 3950 2124, towards an existing field boundary, although the two features do not join up exactly. To the south of the trackway are a number of curvilinear and sinuous field boundaries preserved in the existing field boundaries and it seems likely that this trackway forms part of an earlier agricultural landscape of fields and lanes. The trackway appears to follow the same alignment as another trackway or hollow way recorded approximately 450m to the west (NHER 49320). This has been interpreted as being of medieval to post medieval date. No tithe map was available for this area at the time of mapping and therefore it could not be ascertained how many of these features were still in use in the nineteenth century.

This trackway is located within an area of fragmentary cropmarks interpreted as being of late prehistoric or Roman date, see NHER 35525 for details.
