Full Description
June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A ring ditch or small oval enclosure is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 3485 2335. It could mark the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, but its rather oval shape in plan suggests it might equally represent a Neolithic mortuary enclosure or even an oval barrow, although no trace of a mound is visible. Pit-like cropmarks in the surrounding area could also represent archaeological features, but are indistinguishable from geological marks and consequently have not been mapped. A number of late post medieval field boundaries and modern drainage features are also visible, which have similarly not been mapped.
The ring ditch or enclosure is a somewhat irregular oval in plan. It measures 11.5m long and up to 9.5m wide. A break in the ditch circuit on its northeast side is more likely to be the product of the cropmark being masked than the presence of a genuine causeway.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 6 June 2007.
