Full Description
August 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated ditches and field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Beech Farm, Burgh St Peter (S1-S2). The site is centred on TM 4851 9290 and is located on the valley side, overlooking the Waveney Valley to the south. The site consists of a palimpsest of fragmentary linear ditches. A number of the ditches are aligned NE-SW or NW-SE and are likely to part of the same phase of field boundaries. Fieldwalking in the vicinity of these cropmarks produced several sherds of Roman pottery, dating to the late first to early second century AD (NHER 16776), although these are more likely to be associated with the cropmark enclosure and associated field boundaries also recorded within this field (NHER 44919).
S. Massey (NMP), 09 August 2006.
