Full Description
These cropmarks were previously recorded under NHER 13096.
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a series of probable post medieval boundaries and drainage ditches are visible on aerial photographs to the east of South Walsham Broad, Pilson Green (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 3740 1387. These cropmarks overlie an undated, but possibly Roman site, consisting of enclosures and fields (NHER 49508).
The cropmarks consist of a central trackway or boundary, running approximately N-S, with a series of parallel and perpendicular boundaries to either side. Similar boundaries have been mapped to the west of Pilson Green (NHER 49467). None of these boundaries are marked on the 1838 South Walsham Tithe map (S4) and therefore presumably relate to a post medieval layout removed prior to the mid nineteenth century.
S. Massey (NMP), 30 May 2007.
