NHER 50443 (Monument record) - World War Two observation tower, Grimston Warren

Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey. Grimston Warren (West), Site 10:
The remains of a tower, 2m square with brick pillars at each corner, about 6m high.
This is an observation tower for the World War Two artillery training / bombing range on Roydon Common to the north. [1].

One of two quadrant towers (NHER 15295 and NHER 50443). It is thought that both towers had a wooden superstructure attached by bolts to the concrete ring beam sitting on top of the piers. Both towers show some concrete foundations at the base indicating where a ladder was mounted for access.
