June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary trackways, enclosures and field boundaries of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs at east of Hill House on Lingwood and Strumpshaw parish border (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 3704 0684.

The main component of the site is a series of fragmentary trackways that traverse the site. At least two of these are run parallel to one another and along with some of the field boundaries following a similar alignment are likely to represent the remains of a field system. The interior of one these trackways is producing a negative cropmark suggesting a compacted or laid surface. A possible sub-rectilinear enclosure is located at TG 3735 0671, measuring approximately 80m by 50m (S3). Another even more partial enclosure may be located at TG 3690 0711. This possibly conjoined to one of the trackway.

The date of these cropmarks is not certain. It is possible that the enclosures, fields and tracks range in date from the late prehistoric to Roman date period. Although the fact that one of the trackways runs parallel to the parish boundary and a field boundary marked on the 1838 Lingwood Tithe map (S5) could suggest that this component at least may be medieval to post medieval in date. A number of field boundaries thought to be post medieval in date have been omitted from the mapping, in particular those that correspond with boundaries on the 1838 Lingwood Tithe map.
