Map

March 2007. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 1).
Finds recovered included:
26 prehistoric worked flints.
1 medieval pottery sherd.
1 post-medieval coin, 1 token, 1 pottery sherd, 8 ceramic building material fragments and 1 horse-harness buckle.
A large amount of twisted aluminium was also observed. This debris appeared to be associated with a shallow crater and is thought to represent an aircraft crash site (now recorded separately as NHER 63367).
Modern and undatable metal objects.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details.
It should be noted that although the main report is not clear on the exact location of the probable aircraft wreckage, the position of the main concentration is clearly marked in the interim report (S2) (at c. TG 1521 1565).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 May 2019.

The results of trial trenching undertaken in 2009 are now recorded under NHER 63366.
