Full Description
July 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A ring ditch of unknown date is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TM 3853 9810. It may represent the site of a small, isolated, Bronze Age round barrow, or could instead be the product of a later and more mundane event or activity. Given its distinctive topographic position, on high ground overlooking a tributary of the River Chet, the former suggestion seems most likely. Prehistoric flints have been recovered from the vicinity of the site (NHER 22670 and 22683).
The ring ditch is roughly circular in plan and measures approximately 12.5m in diameter. A break on the north side of the ditch circuit is as likely to be the product of the cropmark being masked, as it is the presence of a genuine causeway.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 20 July 2007.
