The cropmarks of a ring ditch probably represent the remains of a Neolithic to Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Police House, Tottenhill (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 6388 1094. The ring ditch is slightly oval in plan, measuring 30m by 27m. Given this slightly oval shape it is possible that this barrow is Neolithic in date. A Neolithic axehead has been found in close proximity (NHER 16232). Although on the current evidence a Bronze Age date for the ring ditch may be most likely interpretation.
S. Massey (NMP), 14 February 2008.
