Full Description
September 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated and multi-period linear ditches, the majority of which are likely to be former field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Primrose Grove and Royal Hill, Ringland (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 1363 1486. Finds in this area (NHER 15027, 18046-7), attest to prehistoric date activity, although it is not clear if any of the cropmarks recorded relate to that period.
Some of the cropmarks, in particular those to the west of the site (S3), may represent post medieval field boundaries, whilst others, such as those to the directly north of Royal Hill (S1) may be broadly contemporary with the cropmarks recorded to the east (NHER 50602), which are thought to be Roman in date. A single Roman sherd was also recovered to the west of the site (NHER 18043), again indicating a probable continuation of Roman activity to the west of the main site (NHER 50602).
S. Massey (NMP), 12 September 2007.
