Full Description
September 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a possible road or field boundary bank is visible on aerial photographs (S1). A negative cropmark is present on a northwest to southeast alignment. Its course continues to the northwest as a modern field boundary. To the southeast the cropmark stops at Stoney Lane, which is part of the Fen Causeway Roman road (NHER 2796). It is possible that the cropmark relates to a former road branching off of the Roman road or that it is a former field boundary. A short section of its course is present as a field boundary on an early 19th century map of Beetley parish (S2).
J. Albone (NMP), 21 September 2007.
May 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project (volunteer strand).
The possible road or field boundary described above, which is probably of medieval to post medieval date, is visible as a low earthwork on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 (S3). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 15 May 2024.
