Map

November 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of a group of possible enclosures and boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The cropmarks indicate that the enclosures are defined by banks or walls. They form a rectilinear pattern covering an area of approximately 187m by 167m. The alignment of the enclosures does not fully correspond to the post medieval field pattern. The first edition 6 inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map of the late 19th century (S2) and Faden’s county map of 1797 (S3) show that they were located in area which formed part of Hoe Common. Although it is possible that the enclosures are of medieval to post medieval date, their location on former common land may make this less likely. A Roman coin (NHER 25589) has been found immediately to the north of the cropmarks and it is also possible that they are of Roman date.
J. Albone (NMP), 12 November 2007.
