Summary

The cropmarks of a ring ditch, probably representing the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs of Foxford, Great Witchingham. This monument is located within a large circular enclosure (NHER 50706) and to the immediate south of a probable hengiform monument (NHER 1018), both of probable late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date.

The cropmarks of a ring ditch, probably representing the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs of Foxford, Great Witchingham (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 0965 1872 and is located at the confluence of the River Wensum and a minor tributary. This monument is located within a large circular enclosure (NHER 50706) and to the immediate south of a probable hengiform monument (NHER 1018), both of probable late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Another possible ring ditch is also located to the west (NHER 50708).

The ring ditch is 17m in diameter and has a break in the ditch to the southwest. A double ditched linear, possibly a trackway, appears to intersect with the ring ditch at this point. This ring ditch is located within a large circular enclosure, approximately 80m across (NHER 50706) and it seems likely that this larger enclosure is the earlier of the two sites. Although a ring ditch of this size has been found with a barrow in the centre (Hopton on Sea, NHER 43526), the fact that this ring ditch is not located within the centre would suggest that these two features do not have a similar relationship and may not be contemporary.
