Full Description
December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of a pair of medieval to post medieval tracks or hollow ways are visible on aerial photographs to the southwest of Primrose Green, Lyng (S1). The site is centred on TG 0669 1590. These routeways may have been associated with the medieval settlement and possible moat located to the east (NHER 14402).
The northern ditch appears to line up with a boundary marked on the 1849 Enclosure map (S2). This earthwork is up to 9m wide and therefore is likely to represent a track or hollow way. This possibly originally linked up with a continuation of the boundary to the west, possibly pre-dating Primrose Green Farm and the modern road. The southern track or boundary is much narrower, 3-5m wide, and this also appears to continue to the west of the modern road. By 1988 (S3) these earthworks appear to have been plough-levelled and the site has been put to arable cultivation.
