Full Description
The cropmarks recorded under this number were previously under 13731.
December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and soilmarks of a series of post medieval field boundaries and a trackway are visible on aerial photographs to the northeast of Elsing Heath (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 0551 1753. The trackway and boundaries visible on the aerial photographs are consistent with the layout depicted on the 1849 Elsing Enclosure map (S5). Under normal circumstances it would not be necessary to map these features as they are already recorded sufficiently by the available map evidence, however it was felt that it may be beneficial to map the boundaries due to their close proximity to the cropmarks of a Roman enclosure or farmstead (NHER 50747). This will hopefully reduce any confusion between the two partially overlying sites.
S. Massey (NMP), 05 December 2007.
