December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Possible traces of World War One or World War Two military training activity may be visible on aerial photographs on Lyng Heath (S1), although the evidence is not conclusive. The site is centred on TG 0591 1701.

Possible traces of weapons pits may be visible though the heathland vegetation in 1946, although there is no definite evidence of recent activity or tracks leading to and from these features, as is often visible at such types of military sights, if they have been in recent use. It is therefore possible that the activity dates to very early in World War Two or possibly even World War One. However it must be stated that none of the features can be conclusively identified as military and it is possible that they have been created through other activities on the heath in the past. Groups of small pits identified nearby have tentatively been interpreted as iron ore procurement pits (NHER 50766).
S. Massey (NMP), 19 December 2007.
